Internationally accepted resorts cannot rest on their laurels, and it is highly unlikely that they can be ranked at the top of the league table solely on the reputation-no matter how justifiable of it’s winter sports facilities. Seefeld in summer is, as the saying goes, as good as it gets. The golf course in Seefeld/ Wildmoos, an 18-hole championship entry, is listed as one of the 100 most beautiful golf courses in the world. This par 71 course was designed by the English architect Donald Harradine, and lies at 1,300 meters above sea level. Although the course is close to the town centre, it is situated in a pastoral setting and is completely surrounded by birches and pines. It is playable from mid May until October, and can be enjoyed by visitors to the resort as well as local members.

The club also features a fully-fledged golf academy, which has a number of International golf pros to improve the game of golfers of all standards. Beginners can gain valuable experience on the 6-hole course (later to be expanded to 18), and golfers of all abilities can use the driving range and putting greens. If golf is not your game, perhaps tennis is. Twenty open air courts supplement the 8 indoor courts during the summer months, and here too there is a large, mostly Swedish, teaching staff. For swimmers Seefeld boasts three Alpine lakes, a heated outdoor pool, and a sensational indoor pool, the Olympia. There is also a seemingly never ending selection of rafting, riding, para gliding, hiking, climbing and sightseeing. As it is located on the edge of the Karwendel mountain range, Seefeld also has the largest nature reserve in an Austrian mountain area. This makes for dandy walking trips, using the gondola to get to the higher elevations and then spending a night or two in one of the ranges’ many mountain huts. These must be reserved in advance however. In addition to all this there are most interesting sightseeing possibilities available from your Seefeld base.

Within thirty minutes one can be in Innsbruck, Garmisch Partenkirchen, and a host of smaller, but no less beautiful destinations. Within a couple of hours, Salzburg, Munich, Italy and Switzerland can be put on your list. It is even possible to visit Venice on a longer day trip from Seefeld. With such a large number of first class hotels, many offering conference and seminar facilities, Seefeld also must come into consideration as a business destination.

The Olympia sport and congress centre is the focal point here, with venue possibilities for most all sizes of groups. There is also a congress and exhibition centre in the WM Halle and many of the leading hotels have their own conference facilities. Naturally there are sufficient and varied restaurants, bars and discos to please even the most selective tastes. If you want to try to improve your fortunes by trusting to lady luck, there is also a Casino right in the town centre.

To get to Seefeld from Munich cross into Austria from Garmisch, from Switzerland cross at Feldkirch, and from Italy use the Brenner pass. Munich and Salzburg are probably the best International airports. Innsbruck is the closest but not truly International.
